Ayurvedic Management of Fatigue (General weakness)

General weakness or fatigue or debility is lack of physical or muscle strength. It can be felt due to number of metabolic and neurological conditions, primary muscular diseases and toxic disorders. Diseases like anaemia, hypothyroidism, obesity, diabetes, kidney and liver diseases, influenza (flu), and Cardiac and Pulmonary diseases, mental problems like depression, anxiety, stress and insomnia are some of the causes that lead to weakness and related disorders like chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) etc. Ayurveda effectively treats this problem by adopting a holistic approach involving the mind and body with a focus on cleaning and rejuvenative the body whilst de-stressing the mind.

Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Intake of animal protein should be reduced.
  • Eat fibre-rich carbohydrates like bread.
  • Do not consume too much sugar and salt in your diet.
  • You should have self control while consuming alcohol. Cigarette smoking, excessive use of drugs and multiple sexual partners without proper protection should be avoided. Always keep your chin up to maintain a positive outlook and emotional stability.
  • Take yogurt, buttermilk, mint, apple, pomegranate, papaya, banana, carrot, potato, etc.

Ayurvedic home remedies you can try:

  • Take 1 Cup beetroot juice, 1 cup of apple juice, mixed with either sugar or honey once a day to prevent anaemia.
  • Take a ripe banana with 1 tbsp of honey 2 times a day to treat weakness.
  • A mixture of apple and tomato juice also helps to fight against the weakness.
  • Three or four cloves of raw garlic should be boiled in a cup of water. This soup can be reinforced with the juice of half a lemon and taken twice daily.
  • Eat 4-5 dates daily to replenish the lost energy.

A qualified Ayurvedic doctor will first try to analyze the root cause of the problem and will try to eliminate the causative factors related.
In many cases therapies like Sarva Kaya Abhyanga, Shiro Dhara, Kashaya Vasti, Sneha Vasti, Pizhichil and Meditation along with preparations for internal use and diet and lifestyle changes are prescribed.
